The possibility that Idris Elba is going to be the next James Bond has made me think, isn't the character of James Bond an all-action, risk-taking, womanising, white man?
How about:
Hugh Grant as Shaft?
Samuel L Jackson as Miss Marple?
Russell Crowe as Lando Calrissian
Eddie Murphy as Hercule Poirot?

There was a black Nancy in a TV Oliver Twist a couple of years ago, she was great. I think Elba could do Bond.

In Moonraker, Special Branch Officer Gala Brand thinks that Bond is "certainly good-looking . . . Rather like Hoagy Carmichael in a way. That black hair falling down over the right eyebrow. Much the same bones. But there was something a bit cruel in the mouth, and the eyes were cold."
In the novels (notably From Russia, with Love), Bond's physical description has generally been consistent: slim build; a three-inch long, thin vertical scar on his right cheek; blue-grey eyes; a "cruel" mouth; short, black hair, a comma of which falls on his forehead. Physically he is described as 183 centimetres (6 feet) in height and 76 kilograms (167 lb) in weight.
After Casino Royale, Bond also had the faint scar of the Russian cyrillic letter "Ш" (SH) (for Shpion: "Spy") on the back of one of his hands, carved by a SMERSH agent.

I'm not a huge Bond fan but it just seems wrong to have an established character change ethnicity.
It's widely known that Bond's early life was based on Fleming's own. Bond attended Eton and given the dates used in the books for his joining the MoD would have been there in the 1930s. I don't think it was a particularly diverse establishment back then.
Also considering his parents are Scottish and Swiss I think it's safe to assume that he's white.

I haven't read any of the books, but I am told that at no point is Bond's colour mentioned.
if that is the case, then its no big deal the actor is black. more of a concern should be that he is shit
